The Swine flu (H1N1) was first identified in Mexico in April 2009. It has since become a pandemic and has spread quickly around the globe. More than 440,000 laboratory-confirmed cases of pandemic H1N1 influenza and more than 5,700 deaths had been reported to the World Health Organization. Many countries in Europe, including Iceland, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Belgium and the Netherlands, Ukraine were increasingly affected by H1N1 virus. The spread of the H1N1 virus in the Netherlands has accelerated this week. In Britain, the worst hit country in Europe, new swine flu cases nearly doubled in a week, from 27,000 to 53,000, and the number of deaths now total of 128. New deaths from the virus were also reported in Germany, its third fatality, and for the first time in the Czech Republic. Ukraine has recorded 450 000 flu patients as well as 70 deaths.

New H1N1 virus spreads very easily person to person. It is transmitted as easily as the normal seasonal flu and can be passed to other people by exposure to infected droplets expelled by coughing or sneezing that can be inhaled, or that can contaminate hands or surfaces.
