Global migrations

Focus on global migrations:

They are carried out under time and temperature conditions (2h at 40°C).

For the migration tests, it is impossible to verify the migration with all the foodstuffs. Simulants are used, representing food families with different adsorption, solubilization and absorption behaviours:

  • Acetic acid for acidic foods
  • Ethanol for alcoholic foods
  • Vegetable oil for fatty foods

Restrictions are allowed for global migrations.

For example, on single-use vinyl gloves, we can add to the food contact pictogram the mention: fatty food restrictions. This means that the glove is suitable for food contact except for fatty foods.
